Adolescents engage with sexual language in many ways. This article discusses how teenagers develop and express their identity and peer group through sexual language. Adolescence is a key time for coming to understand and discuss one’s sexual orientation and gender identity. Culture and religion play a key role in how the morality of sexuality and sexual expression is presented to adolescents. The ways that adults talk to adolescents about sexuality, as well as the language used to describe sexuality education are also discussed.
