The Hite Report: A Nationwide Study of Female Sexuality was originally published in 1976 and reprinted in 2004 with an updated introduction by its author, Shere Hite. The intent of the report was “to discover how women view their own sexuality.” Five domains were assessed in the report: orgasms, sexual activities, relationship status, life stage, the ending. The Hite Report was innovative in its approach to female sexuality, that is, it asked women about their opinions on sex and how sex or orgasms really feel rather than telling them how they should feel. The report profoundly shaped the way that contemporary culture thinks about female sexuality, sexual slavery, and female orgasms.
